Gift's of Love

This week has been great and positive as we have been able to get Britten involved  at the University.  He is now attending Speech Therapy at USU  2 days a week, while continuing at the Hospital the other days.  Britt is excited to be up on campus as he bumps into many friends.  He is thrilled to be able to attend an institute class (Miracles of Christ), where the Instructors have been so willing to help.  Britten is now involved on the Activities committee and had a great time passing out pizza for "game day!"   Britten cheered the Aggies on, where he thought it was so cool to be standing on the 3rd row in the student section.  But he soon found out that 3 hours was too long to stand on his foot, as it caused him great pain and the loud cheering  gave him a headache.  I texted him to see how he was doing and he said, "I can't really see anything, but I'm doing great!"

So many acts of service are shown to our family on a weekly basis.  Grand Parents , friends and neighbors continue to help us drive Britt to and from his therapy's. The sacrifice on their part helps me tremendously as it gives me a few hours to get something done (like the blog). Haha

A few weeks ago, two little neighbor boys came to visit Britten one evening.  They handed him some money and said,  "We made these braided wrist bands and sold them at school, so we could raise money to help you pay for your therapies."   What great love was shown by 2 young primary children, as they sacrificed their money and time to serve Britten.
Another kind act of love was shown by a young women in our Ward, as she had a baked food sale for her Young Women's project. She and class members spent many hours in preparing, baking and selling foods, as she raised a generous amount of  money to help Britten with his therapy's.

We are so deeply touched by the gifts of love that we have felt, that others have given of themselves to bless our life.     No greater present could be recieved than that of love.

As Britten finished speech therapy this week, I was so excited for the great progress he is  making.  My heart fluttered with gratitude as the therapist started to share her feelings with me about Britten, She said,
"As one of Britten's therapists, I have been so thrilled and excited with his motivation and eagerness to learn. He is such a hard worker and is so involved in his therapy. He wants to be challenged and it is so wonderful to have a client who is so invested in his treatment and is willing to work hard at every session. He even lets me know if I am not challenging him enough, or if I jump in to help him too soon (and I appreciate that.)
I told him that I have never had a client (in 20 years) that worked as hard as he does, or is as motivated as he is. I have also never had a client who made documentable progress at every single therapy visit.
It is so fun and rewarding to work with him."

Our Labor Day weekend was great as we enjoyed spending time with family. Britten was thrilled to be on a jet ski with his brother (one of his favorite past times) for the first time in two years.  It was exciting to watch Britt play football with the guys as he was the quarterback for his team.   Britten's balance continues to improve each week with physical therapy, as we watched him play volleyball.
We couldn't help cheering when he jumped up and block Canon's Spike!   I continued to be amazed while being grateful, for how well he does with such little site!  My Father says, "someone is helping him see."

Two weeks ago, August 22, 2012, I took Britten into the Ear, Nose Throat Doctor for a check up dealing with his Vertigo and being so nauseous. The Doctor decided to do an Audio Test on Britten to see where he was at. The Doctor had the reports that were done at the U of U on June 21, just 2 months earlier that showed he had a 30-35% hearing loss in his left ear. They said that surgery could be done to possibly correct this problem.
The Audiologist performed the test and said, "His hearing is normal." I looked at him with a puzzled look and said, "No, he was just tested 2 months ago and he has hearing loss." He said, "Well, it's normal now." Again, my heart started to flutter as tears welled up in my eyes.
The ENT (who knows Britt) came in and said, "I don't know why I am surprised. Why should I expect anything else." I left the Doctor's office and sat in the waiting room for minute. I had a hard time trying to control my emotions as we continue to to see the Lords merciful hand in Britten's recovery

It is amazing to us see Britten's progress.  It is also amazing to us that so many wonderful people are keeping Britten and our family in their thoughts and prayers.  We feel so blessed as a family to be witnesses of the continued blessings and love from our Father in Heaven and his son Jesus Christ.  It is a humbling experience to witness and be involved in.  We love you all for all the love that has been shown to us.  We love our Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ and know all good things come from him.

I'm always wondering how Britt is doing, and I need to get up to Logan one of these weekends to visit you guys...I have some pretty important stuff to tell Britt, which I'm positive he'll love to hear, and an invitation for him ;) Also, I was talking to Sister Moreira this week and she sent her love to you guys, and of course was asking for updates. I'll give you a call soon and see when I can go up and see you guys!!! Love you!!!

  2. Dear Schenk Family,

My name is Heidi Stay (my Aunt mentioned me in a few post back) and I don't know a lot about your story, I need to read this blog more but I have had someone come to me recently and said to contact you but I didn't know how so I kinda blew it off and then my Aunt just barely said also for me to contact you so I guess two people telling me about this really means something and I should! Anyway, my story is I had a stroke a few years back. I was at BYU-Idaho at the time, I was 19 years old and on January 26, 2009 a vein called an AVM (altra-venios malformation) a malformed vien that had no purpose in my head, developed when I was formed in the womb, very weak and because of much blood flow because of stress, the vien could not handle it and burst. I was life flighted to the hospital where a 6 and 1/2 hour surgery was performed removing the avm and a small portion of brain, ruined by blood. I remained in the ICU for 4 weeks, was in a comma like state for about 3, then for another month of a rehab hospital, for a total of 2 months in a hospital and then sent home where it was another year of being an outpatient who would come in a few times a week for Occupational, Physical, Speech therapies. It took a year to walk on my own but I still had balance problems and still some now but I know Heavenly Father is there to protect me and I know he has been in the past. Everytime I have lost balance and about to fall over there is always something near to grab onto to prevent the fall.I went back to BYU-Idaho after a year and half but still only taking 1/2 credits because my ability to concentrate is not long yet. Everything is coming though and I know IT WILL COME! It now has been 3 and 1/2 years and I am really close to a full recovery. The things I deal with are only to my knowledge now. My whole experience has been miracle after another, Doctor's are very suprised by my recovery, they expected me at first not to live or be a vegetable and then once I started to make progress they were always amazed each time an improvment was made! Anyway, this post I'm sure has many typo's, run-on sentences, and parts don't make sense, I am sorry, I wrote it really fast but please contact me back if anyone wants any advice, comfort, ect. Heavenly Father has a plan for each of us,we may not know what now but he is there and he love's us, we just need to put our trust in him! Here is my e-mail if you want to contact me
    heidijane21@gmail.com

and also here is my blog if you want more details but go about 8 post's back because now, what is on there is useless stuff, it's just for fun now that wont give any info now about my story. I kinda stopped posting info that was about my accident and recovery because now it is becoming such a minor problem I didn't want to focus on what was bad in the past anymore because I am doing so good, just dwelling on the past might seem I was un-grateful and even still, I have minor problems, but I am so blessed to be where I am now that those with bigger problems now, I just want to show life is so great and no matter what, where we are we have so many things to be grateful for! Anyway, hope this helps and let me know if there is anything I can do!!

I sure hope and pray for his wealth, and his opportunity to move on ahead with all the many things he loves and would like to do!! The most wonderful thing of it all was to see all who could be there with him to help him and love him!! Brazil was for sure blessed with his work and love. The Lord is with him and we know he is and will well!! Love from us!!
