It Was A Good Day

We witnessed more small improvements today. We call them miracles. Neurologically...the Awesome Doctors say that Elder Schenk is doing good. For us that means that the swelling in the brain is decreasing and that when sedation is low enough he is moving all four limbs more and more. It can be a very slow process for swelling to completely go away. Our main concern is the pneumonia. For us, that mostly means that it is on top of the list, the next "hurdle" that Britten needs to cross. We are so grateful to our Heavenly Father for the miracles we are witness to on a daily basis. We are stunned and amazed by all the support, prayers and well wishes from so many! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts! Many have said they have marveled at our strength and good attitudes. We are just ordinary people. We have, however, believed in and trusted in our Savior Jesus Christ. Not only believed in Him, but believed Him. He said, come unto me and I will make your burdens light. He will! He is! We love Him! We realize that all of those praying for and supporting us have struggles and trials of their own, some bigger, some smaller. (we talked about that "small" term before) We pray for you. Pray for each other and our missionaries wherever they are. With love and gratitude, The Schenks

  1. Dear Family Schenk. I really, really feel what your are feeling. My daughter was run over a bus 3 years ago, she had serious brain injury. I read every day your blog and what you discribe is all we passed. She also had pneomonia, and had small improvements, but we were blessed with a great miracle. You can ask our President Stake Luciano Cascardi, and hear how wonderful she is now.

  11. We love the missionaries all over the world. They are an inspiration to us with their unselfish desire to serve the children of our Heavenly Father. When one of them is hurt in any way it truly affects us. Our prayers are with you and your family to have strength to endure this trial. Your testimony is so sweet and strong. I'm sure your son will heal and continue to get better. I just loved what Presdent Monson told our Young Women tonight. When your problems seem too much to bear "Seek Heavenly Guidance one day at a time. Life by the yard is hard, by the inch it's a sinch." Keep your thoughts posative and happy that will help your son the most. We will continually pray for him and you!!!

  13. I check each night to read of the progress that your son is making. Thank you for allowing all of us to share in this experience and have the opportunity to have our testimonies strengthened as we join together in your sons behalf in fasting and prayer for him and for you. I know that miracles happen, I have witnessed them with my son who suffered a tramatic brain injury and the love and prayers of so many helped strengthen my testimony that God is a loving and merciful God and he hears his children when they cry out to him. I will continue to pray for him and will pray that he will be healed from hurdle #1 the pneumonia. My love to you and your sweet son.

  15. Thinking about you and your family. I just found out about this on Friday and was so worried. We've been busy with trying to find a house that I haven't even thought of much else. I know that my trials are so insignificant to what you are dealing with. I hope you will continue to have those tender mercies given to you that will lead to miracles. We know that happen. Live and prayers to all of you.

  16. Thanks for keeping us updated. I look forward to your posts every night and will pray for the pneumonia to go away. A fun mercy for us was to see Jackson, Logan, and Lora at a basketball tourney in Westside yesterday. Jackson's team was playing Steven's team and beat us soundly. Can't believe how much he's grown up since I saw him last! It was fun to finally meet Lora and play with Taylee. She has a darling personality and looks like her beautiful grandma! :) Give each other hugs for us and know that you are in our prayers and thoughts almost constantly. Love you!

  30. I left your family a voicemail at what I believe is your home phone number in Utah. Please listen to it and contact me, I would like to offer some assistance if I can. I live between Sao Paulo (very near the Sao Paulo temple) and Utah. If you can dial a local Brazil number you can call me at 9183-8897 which you should be able to dial from the hospital or if you have a U.S. cell phone you can call me on my Brazil IP phone at 801.256.1888.
