A Peaceful Day

Elder Schenk had another good day. It was very peaceful and he got a lot of much needed rest. His lungs and pneumonia continue to get better each day. The Doctors are positive and say, "they are happy". That helps us to be more patient. We are just so very grateful to a loving Heavenly Father for each and every little thing. We wish we could reply to each and every one of you because each and every one of you have touched us deeply. We have heard from many that their testimony has been strengthened and so have ours. We have become aware of many others in need as well. Though we may not know their names, our Heavenly Father and Savior do know them and along with you we ask for blessings in their behalf. We give thanks for a peaceful day. All our love, Steven, Karla & Elder Schenk

  3. This is Michele Thompson Loras sister. I just want you To know that my kids bless Britten in all of their prayers. If they forget another kid makes them say it again to make sure he is getting blessed. We love your family so much and I just want you to know that you have touched the lives of many by opening this blog and allowing people to read and feel the spirit of your strength. You will continue to be in our prayers. And I will continue to read this blog everyday. And just know that many tears of sadness and love for your family have been shed.

  4. As you have realized, hospitals are some of the most sacred places on earth. You really come to understand the terms empathy and love...there is always someone in just as much (or maybe even more) need as you. It is very, very humbling...you feel the presence of angels. We met many wonderful families through the years and we are so glad to add our prayers to yours in behalf of those you are coming in contact with. We love you dearly. May the Lord continue to bless our sweet Elder Schenk.

  5. I am so grateful for today's news. After the past two busy days of surgery I am happy that Britten had a peaceful, restful day. I hope that somehow you were able to get some peace and rest as well. You need to stay healthy! We thank Heavenly Father that Britten's lungs and pneumonia continue to get better!
I have been thinking about the upcoming General Conference that we get to enjoy this weekend. I've wondered if you will be able to listen to any of it on your computer. I know the apostles and church leaders always address and pray for the missionaries. I have appreciated this and felt comfort from this collective effort of the church as my sons have served missions. This conference I will hear them in a different way. They will speak to me in a special way. I will know that they are praying for all of the missionaries serving in the world, and especially for Britten and those needing specific blessings. The Lord loves His missionaries. We love our missionaries.
    Continued prayers, thoughts, and hugs!
    Love you so much!
    Melanie

  10. Dear Steven and Karla,

It has been wonderful to read the good news of the past three days. We are so glad that Britten continues to improve and that the doctors are happy. I think it was Melanie who mentioned conference coming this weekend. I too will be watching with different eyes and listening with different ears to the prophets as they speak to us. It's interesting how an unexpected change of course can alter one's perspective, strengthen faith, and heighten resolve. I am so grateful for a kind and loving Father in Heaven who knows and loves each one of us; how in His infinite wisdom can turn tragedy into a tool to hone and refine us.

As I have gone through adversity in my life, I have asked Him, "What can I learn and what can I teach?" I see all that you and your family are going through now and I'm sure you see the blessings of the things you are learning, but wonder if you really realize the impact of what you are teaching to thousands of people throughout the world by sharing your faith and testimony through this little blog? Just from my perspective it is immense as I see so many friends, many who are not members of the church, following your posts and inviting their friends to exercise faith and prayer in Elder Schenk's behalf. What a glorious thing!

May the Lord's choicest blessings continue to be on you and your family through this life lesson that you are learning and teaching. We love you and continue to pray in Britt's and your behalf.

All Best--Marilyn (Rachel and Mikey too!)

  11. It's incredible! Your wonderful blog is sharing a message of Faith, Hope and Love throughout the entire World! As of 4am there have been 117,600 visits to check on Elder Britten's status! Given, a lot of them are family, friends and caring people checking up on how he's progressing, but none-the-less there are thousands of people thinking of you and pleading in prayer for Britten's well being! Let's pool our Faith - the Book of Mormon has several verses saying that Miracles are rought by Faith and if there aren't any it is because of Unbelief. I know our God is a God of Miracles. I know He Can Do It - If it is his will. Better leave it in HIS Hands!

    Love from Dan & LaNae

  13. So glad that he is resting and that those little miracles are happening. I hope you are finding the way to rest as well. Having been where you are, the Lord magnifies your abilities in understanding and knowledge, trust that. The miracles happen in the small and simple things. Wish I could hug you tight Karla! 17. I am a brain injury survivor as well. My name is Clara Lewis. My accident was Nov. 14, 2011. I also served a mission in Brazil. Santa Maria was my mission. I am so grateful to hear of your faith and positive attitude. This is how I make it through the day. I was hit by a front runner train in my car. I sustained a brain injury, 2 broken ribs and a broken shoulder. That is it. And I lived! People tell me I am a walking miracle. My 2 girls were in the car with me and they were uninjured! I just want to jump on a plane and come be with you. I am not fully recovered yet, but I will and I am working hard to be. I know you are busy, but I would love to help in any way. My email is clarastorybooking@gmail.com. Please feel free to email me with any questions. I had pneumonia as well and had to have a trach in my throat. I think it is nice to know other people that have brain injuries. I pray for you and Elder Schenik. Abracos to you and your loved ones.
