Much Like Yesterday

We are so grateful to those who are taking care of things at home, those who are taking great care of us and Britten here. The prayers and support we have felt from so many have made it easy for us to be optimistic and positive. The strength and calm assurance we feel from Our Savior Jesus Christ and The Holy Spirit have made it easy for us to Believe and have no doubts. Elder Schenks fever was not quite so high today. He seemed tired and so he rested most of the day. The fluid from around his lungs was initially negative for bacteria, but cultures will be more certain the next few days. Britten did seem to communicate a couple of times with his mother today. We are being patient. Each day his lungs are a little better. We understand now, he had a fairly severe pneumonia. We thank Our Father in Heaven for his many blessings. All our love, The Schenks

  2. Dear Schenk Family--

Again, we want to express our love and concern for Britten and your family. Although we don't know you, we feel a connection. As I have said before, our son, Elder Grant Merrill is serving in the Sao Paulo East Mission as well. Anyway, we just want to say again, how much we appreciate you sharing such personal feelings and updates on Britten. We pray daily for you and Britten. May you continue to find peace and comfort in the gospel and in our Savior, Jesus Christ. Love--Evan & Coleen Merrill, Medford, OR

  5. We are glad that everyone is getting some rest. Hang in there for we all know who is in charge. Isn't it great to have the Gospel in our lives and know that we have a loving Heavenly Father that is watching over us? Knowing firsthand he is there and wants to help. We just need the faith, as all of you have exhibited so well. All of our testimonies are growing because of the example you are showing to each of us. We love you Karla, Steven and Elder Schenk!!
Keep smiling, as we all are.
Love David, Mary and the kids.

  7. Its so good to hear from you on a day to day basis. We look forward to it each day!! We're so glad to hear that Britt is making improvements each day, and continue to pray for a "speedy" recovery, knowing that our time and ways are not the Lord's and that our " speedy," may mean something entirely different from the Lord's perspective. I found an old journal in a drawer that I was cleaning out this morning....It just happened to be the one I kept when we went on the trip to Canada with you in Sept. of 2003!! I read some to Eric and the boys and Miranda. What great memories!!! It said that you were surprising Britten and Cannon and that Miranda had been giving Britten a hard time at school because she knew he wanted to come.....!!!We met you at the bottom of your lane after school..... Remember the Salmon fishing trip on the Georgia Strait? Remember feeding the eagles, and SOME of us refusing to use the potty on the boat!!Ha Ha. We sure love you guys and hope that you can all come home soon!! Love the Simonson's

  8. My name is Kristin Cox. Elder Schenk and your family are in my thoughts and prayers always. My son, Devin Cox, is a friend of Britten's and swam on the Mt. Crest swim team with Britten. Devin is currently on a LDS mission in San Diego, California. He asked me to post this message to Elder Schenk and your family: Dear Elder Schenk, My prayers are with you. No matter the hardship or trial, you have friends that are always by your side and your Father in Heaven is always aware of you. We love you and are praying for you. I know that God will watch over you and your family. "Wherefore, whoso believeth in God might with surety hope for a better world, yea, even a place at the right hand of God which hope cometh of faith, maketh an anchor to the souls of men, which would make them sure and steadfast, always abounding in good works, being led to glorify God." Ether 12:4. The better world that we hope for is not just the life to come, but it is also here. Let faith be your anchor and fear and doubt will have no power over you. Thank you for your example. You continue to be an example to me by your dedication and service to the Lord. Stay strong in faith and the Lord will always lift your burdens. Love, Elder Devin Cox

  10. I am a brain injury survivor as well. My name is Clara Lewis. My accident was Nov. 14, 2011. I also served a mission in Brazil. Santa Maria was my mission. I am so grateful to hear of your faith and positive attitude. This is how I make it through the day. I was hit by a front runner train in my car. I sustained a brain injury, 2 broken ribs and a broken shoulder. That is it. And I lived! People tell me I am a walking miracle. My 2 girls were in the car with me and they were uninjured! I just want to jump on a plane and come be with you. I am not fully recovered yet, but I will and I am working hard to be. I know you are busy, but I would love to help in any way. My email is clarastorybooking@gmail.com. Please feel free to email me with any questions. I had pneumonia as well and had to have a trach in my throat. I think it is nice to know other people that have brain injuries. I pray for you and Elder Schenik.
