More Miracles

Thanks to all for your continued faith and prayers. Elder Schenk had a "busy" night and this morning was tired and quiet. He did manage a slight smile for his mother as she held his hand this morning. Then this evening as Pres. Moreira was talking to him, he smiled and then almost seemed to giggle at his joke. Sister Moreira said he mouthed some words to her. More miracles in our book. One of the nurses was talking to Sister Moreira in Portuguese and said "that we are seeing miracles, Gods hand at work". His lungs are getting stronger and with very little oxygen (25%). Each day he is getting closer to getting off the ventilator. New CT scans tonight and will tell us more in the morning. We are so grateful to our loving Heavenly Father for these miracles. He is in charge. He and our Savior Jesus Christ love us all and know what is best. Steven, Karla and Elder Schenk

  5. We couldn't be more happy about Britten's progress! He continues to be an amazing example to us of faith and a positive attitude even through trials, as he has his whole mission. I think he got that from his amazing parents! Take care of each other. We love you.

  8. I'm glad to hear that Elder Schenk is getting better! I first heard about his accident from Sister (Irmã) Moreira's Facebook page. I served in Portugal and worked with President and Irmã Moreira for quite a few months. They are amazing people and I'm glad that they are able to be with you guys during all this. Our thoughts and prayers are going out to Elder Schenk for a speedy and successful recovery!

  14. You must know that thoughts and prayers are going out for you from all over the world. I currently live in Germany and heard about what happened to Britten. I have loved reading your blog and how strong you are being through the hardest of trials. What a wonderful example you are of keeping close to our Heavenly Father and putting your full trust in him. I am so happy he smiled at his mom. What a precious thing that we all so often take for granted! I'm looking forward to reading about more miracles as they happen, thank you for your testimony, strength, example & sharing it with us!! Lots of love!! xx

  16. I'm a brazilian living in Utah and heard about his story through a friend. This morning I was able to access the link to the blog and I just wanted to express my heartfelt wishes that he will keep doing better and better! The Lord is on his side and is watching over all of you. Just thought I'd point out that my friend gave me a wooden plate that has President Monson's quote, the one Elder Schenck mentioned in his e-mail. :) It's amazing how we witness the Lord's miracles each and every day! This gospel is true. Love, Helga Pereira

  17. I was wondering if there was a way to possibly send you an email that would be a bit private. We have a son that was injured almost two years ago and we would like to communicate with you and tell you of the miracles that can happen in circumstances like yours and your sons. I am not sure how we could visit, but we would like to try. If it is possible would you reply to this message. We are praying for you.

  21. I am glad to hear he is recovering. The scripture said precept by precept and it looks like that's the way the Lord is working with your son's health: from little to little but moving forward.
Thirty years ago my uncle had a car accident and he also injured his head. He spent 2 months at the hospital and reading about your son, reminded me about my uncle. His brain was also swollen and showed the same movements as your Elder. One day he woke up and then he got into therapy for a few months. Thirty years later, I can say he is fully recovered, still working and is a grandpa. Keep the faith and our prayers go to you and your family!

  24. I remember meeting Britten when he first moved to Cache Valley. You could tell of his goodness the instant you met him and there was always that contagious smile upon his face, always. My heart sank at the news of his accident and I found myself checking this blog several times a day and then dropping to my knees, begging for miracles to be with your family. I think it's hit so close to home as many of us await the return of our sons, who are good friends of Britten's and who are also serving missions at this time. Here's a little note from Elder Pope that he sent along last week: "When I heard about Britten being hit, I was in shock. All I could do was pray my heart out and in doing so I felt peace. He’s an incredible kid and there are missionaries in this mission praying for him as well (Mexico City Northwest Mission). He’s a straight up champ and I love him and hope all is well! Love, Elder Pope" Paula, you are constantly on my mind as is your sweet son and family. Your faith has strengthened many and I pray that our faith and prayers, collectively, will sustain you in this time of need. Every bit of news seems to buoy our "mother hearts". Thanks for that. Lots and lots of love, Jane
